Character Appearance:Rottanger's got sly, green eyes that watch and know, and salt-and-pepper hair that says he's wise. But oh, those green, green eyes. They're always skimming. He catches everything. Underneath his eyes is a nose that looks like it's been broken a few times. And underneath his nose is a mouth that's got one of the most disarming smiles you'll ever see. His face is constantly covered in facial hair. Yours would be, too, if you didn't have a house to shave it. He manages to keep himself fairly clean by using Subway showers and going to the Ritz and talking women into letting him use their bathrooms. He usually dresses in whatever he finds: Two different shoes? He doesn't care, as long as they're boots. Pants with holes in the knees? Those are in style, anyway. And if they weren't? He'd wear them, anyway.

Character History/Personality:Rottanger Howell. He doesn't know who his parents were, really. Not really. They were always a little too distant, even back before Black Magick got out onto the streets. After it got out? They were more than a little too distant. Addiction does that to people, though. It might've been their fault that they were addicted, but Ruddiger never blamed them. Not really.
Instead, he blamed himself. He blamed himself for everything. He blamed himself for his mother and father failing at being parents. He blamed himself for their addiction. He blamed himself for their fights. He blamed himself for their divorce. And he blamed himself for his mother's death. [That last one was actually his fault, though.]
This repeated self-blaming led to self-pity. This self-pity led to self-medication. This self-medication led... to self destruction.
He was already on the road there before Bob Goodman got elected. After Bob Goodman got elected, though? And Ruddiger didn't vote? And blatantly told people that he didn't care about who won the election? After that? When Bob Goodman went through and started cutting non-supporters off the metaphorical teat? A man who absolutely had to control everything his life was pushed over the edge, and forced into a state where he controlled nothing. That's when Ruddiger's teaching career ended, and his self destruction finally came full-circle.
