the rules

registering
-----------------------
This is a roleplaying site so please register with a character's name. Please make sure that your Display Name is your character's first, middle, and last name. If all three don't fit, then first and last will do just fine. Make sure that your Display name uses proper capitalization.
This site does have an application process. This is not meant to terrorize our members, rather inspire them. It's also there for us to make sure that you've put at least minimal time and effort into your character. We do read every application, and you can expect us to ask certain things to be fleshed out. Don't be daunted if we ask this of you, because we'll ask it of most people that apply. Why? Because we want you, no matter how good you are, to be better!
After you've posted your application, please give us at least a day to look it over before you start freaking out about somebody accepting you. We do have OOC and away-from-computer lives that we have to take care of, as well. We promise that we'll get to you, because we absolutely love having new roleplayers using our world.
Don't forget to post in the claims board after you've filled out your registration.
writing
-----------------------
This is a literate site, meaning a few paragraphs is the bare minimum here. When it comes to what a reply looks like, we follow one rule. It's the rule of RECIPROCATION! Meaning, if someone spends two hours writing a 1700 word response, don't reply with one paragraph with no dialogue. As for open threads, try and post something along the lines of 400-600 words. Not too long. Not too short.
characters
-----------------------
We don't have a limit on how many characters you can make, but you should only take on as many as you can handle. We don't want a bunch of unused characters laying around. Also, if you're going to have multiple characters, please have them be of varying genders. We don't want one gender to become too dominant.
No one is perfect, and neither are characters. We don't want to see Mary/Gary Sues, please. Everyone has faults, and let those show! Also, it's really frustrating when people won't stretch beyond their playby's boundaries.
Also, if somebody has already claimed your play-by, you can PM them and ask them if they mind sharing. If they say 'no', remember that the rules are "first come, first serve", so don't get upset. It's not the end of the world. Just find a new play-by, and keep trucking.
graphics
-----------------------
We do require that you have at least an avatar to represent your character on the board. Avatars may not be bigger than 150x200 [width: 150; height:200]and that's the size that we would like to encourage you to use. Signatures are not necessary if you don't really want one, but who wouldn't? The size limit for signatures is 450x200 [width: 450; height: 200]. Please refrain from using nudity in your signatures, unless it's CLASSY nudity. If you're not especially skilled with Photoshop, please post in the requests threads.
activity
-----------------------
Please stay active! I know we all have lives, so we don't expect you to come on every single day, but please try to be on and roleplaying! If you are going to be gone for longer than three or four days, please let the people that you're threading with, and the admins, know. All you have to do is post one tiny thread in the 'Leaving Babylon' board in the OOC section. That way, we don't think that you've died.
rating
-----------------------
This site is rated M, because in life, you never know what's going to happen. This does not mean excessive violence, swearing, or sex. Violence is going to happen, because of the nature of this forum. but you don't have to make your character bury a five year old alive without good cause. Right? Right. 'Senseless violence' will be condoned as long as it's befitting the character's personality. Any personal attacks on other characters need to be discussed between the players. Swearing is allowed, but don't make it a second language. If there's going to be sex, mark the thread with an [Ma] or [Mature] just so those reading responses know what to expect. If you want to fade to black, do it. We much prefer it. It's not mandatory, but don't make your scenes so graphic that this becomes a porn site.
most importantly
-----------------------
Have fun! We're glad to have you here, and we can't wait to interact with you and your character. Don't be shy. We don't bite... not OOCly, at least.
